What Is Your Personal Brand?

Personal-Brand

In order to flourish in your leadership career, you’ll need to pay attention to your personal brand. Think about it: a significant aspect of leadership success pertains to how the leader is perceived and accepted in their role. Positive impressions enhance a leader’s impact and offer more growth opportunities than neutral or negative impressions.

You see, just as a product is marketed by its identity, reputation and differentiation, so are leaders. One leader may be visionary and inspirational, while another may be analytical and contemplative. Both inspire and motivate in their own ways, and both respond to shifting contexts and business demands.

In the work I do, I see leaders who establish a solid personal brand advance their career path. They are sought for their value because that’s what organizations need. There are several key areas that formulate your leadership brand and, when developed well, can take you to new heights.

Are You Reputable?

The fundamental foundation of your personal brand is your reputation: what you’ve done, what you’re capable of doing and what you stand for (your core values and beliefs). Consistent performance and accomplishment build great reputations. Leaders with strong brands don’t need to search for opportunities; opportunities come to them.

According to Paul Larson in, Find Your Voice as a Leader (Aviva Publishing, 2016), a leadership brand establishes your voice. Leaders with a developed voice have a presence: a distinctive quality that makes them stand out. At the root of this is an inner wholeness and authenticity.

Such a strong, positive brand attracts a following. Leaders with a strong brand represent success, attraction and influence. Employees know that a great leadership brand brings gains to everyone.

If you have a solid leadership brand, you fashion your influence in ways that create a lasting legacy. This maximizes your impact, not only while you are in your leadership role, but long after you’re gone. Imagine such a legacy! Does your personal brand have the potential of doing that?
